Will Car Wraps Damage My Vehicle's Paint Job?

Will car wraps damage my paint jobOne question we get all the time is “Do vehicle wraps damage paint jobs?” The short answer is “Not at all!” The longer answer is the subject of today’s blog entry. When you are having graphics installed over your paint job, there are a few different factors you need to think about.

Wraps Protect Your Paint Job

Your car’s finish and paint are both protected by a wrap. You cannot beat that. To make certain there is not any residue or dirt on your paint, the surface of your vehicle is cleaned and given an alcohol wipe down before it is wrapped. A wrap basically acts as a protective, extra layer when you put it over your paint job. It comes between harmful debris and your paint job. This includes flying rocks, ultraviolet rays, and other elements that may cause scratching.

When compared to a non-wrapped car, you will enjoy fewer chips and scratches in the paint whenever you decide to take the wrap off of your car. Of course, your car will not be magically protected from everything just because you wrap it. Dents, scrapes, accidents, and other real damage will still get through the wrap. Though it is nice to think they are, wraps are not impenetrable force fields.

Allow Your Paint to Set before Wrapping It

Car wrap FAQsBefore you get your car wrapped, you need to make sure your paint job has had time to set and that it is in good condition. Once a wrap is removed, paint that is in generally poor condition or that is rusting will not fare well. Due to these already inherent flaws, the paint may peel. Before a wrap is installed, a brand new paint job should have 45 days or more to settle.

You Must Go with the Pros

There are some caveats when it comes to vehicle wraps being a good idea for your paint job. The wrap job must be done well. Your paint can definitely be put in danger if you get a bad graphics removal or installation. Plus, the paint could be stripped if a type of vinyl film not meant for cars is used. However, this is not the fault of the wrap. This is the failure of the vehicle graphics company.

Where to get car wraps in North JerseySo, when asked, “Will car wraps damage my paint?” We let clients know the wrap will not damage the factory paint when it is removed and installed with the proper know how and care. Additionally, in many ways, wraps are better than getting a paint job for your vehicle. If you want to change the appearance of your car, compared to paint, wraps are

  • Much less expensive
  • Removable, which adds to the resale value of your car
  • Great for advertising your business 24 hours a day, seven days a week
