In June, we discussed the custom sign design of a directory we did for Summit Health in Montclair. The client loved the job we did and asked us to come back and do a building sign in Bridgewater, NJ.
Two-Part Building Sign Adds a Chic Look to a Brick Facade
The Bridgewater location for Summit Health is located at 704 Route 202. It houses the clinic’s new Gastroenterology & Urology office. The client asked us to design signage highlighting the specialties and introducing the clinic’s name.
We proposed a split sign. It gives the client the freedom to add services to the location without having to redo the entire signage setup. Instead, we can simply reprint the lower portion of the sign, which ensures that patients always have access to the Summit portion of the information.
Composite Panel Signage is Durable and Fully Customizable
The sign’s top portion focuses attention on the address numbers, the clinic’s name, the corporate logo, and the color palette. Blue and red prints are set against a white background. We added a blue border around the sign, which draws attention to the custom shape.
For the sign’s bottom portion, we eliminated the red color. The background is blue, while the print and border are white. This color reversal reinforces the connection between the sign’s two parts. Concurrently, the space between them allows the red brickwork to show through, which offers a great look.
Why Choose Three-Dimensional Panels for a Building Sign?
Any 3D elements will stand out from a facade. In the case of a brick facing, it is even more important. A sign without a three-dimensional design could get overlooked against the depths between bricks and grout. That said, even if the facade is smooth, the 3D effect allows the product to stand out and get the attention of passersby.
Considering that building signs are not just for advertising but also wayfinding, it is critical that they are immediately visible before the visitor sees anything else on the building. Another advantage is the opportunity to echo the message on other outdoor signage, primarily monument or pylon signs.
Which Is Better: A 3D Panel or 3D Letters?
Our shop does both; we routinely design, fabricate, and install three-dimensional letters as well as boards. Typically, the choice is up to your taste. Having said that, consider that there are a few times when a building panel simply makes more sense.
This could be the case on a building with a smaller wall surface. While letters could appear too big for the wall – even if they are not – the well-defined borders of a panel design are aesthetically the better choice. Another reason for a panel sign is the integration of multiple brand colors. Letters generally limit you to creating one focal hue.
