3D Signs for Businesses vs. Flat Panel Signs

The goal is visibility and the opportunity to boost brand recognition. In this context, let’s look at the choice between 3D and flat-panel signs.

3D Signs for Businesses Impress With Depth

Three-dimensional signs display raised logos and letters. Examples include channel letters, dimensional letters, push-through acrylic letters, and halo-lit signage. The depth of the 3D construction creates shadows and visible contrast. It allows for a strong brand presence and is as visible at night as during the day. You will have noticed 3D building signs on storefronts and in lobbies.

Flat Panel Signs Rely on Color Combinations to Draw Attention

Because flat panel signs have no physical depth, they must make up for it with eye-catching design, such as letters with color and contrast. Businesses like them because they have a lower upfront cost and are excellent for short-term use. A good example is the real estate sign you see on the side of the road. Another display is the “coming soon” information at construction sites.

3D vs. Flat Panel Signs

Which sign is right for your brand? There are typically three considerations.

  1. Display duration. If you need temporary signage, flat panel signs are ideal. They are quick to design, fabricate, and install. Besides that, they are budget-friendly. Conversely, if you are looking for a sign that will remain in place for a while, the 3D option could be better. Durable materials offer a good return on investment, even though the initial cost is higher.
  2. Illumination option. Due to the depth of the 3D sign, it is ideally suited for use with LEDs. The lighting heightens the letters’ shadows, making them even more prominent. Additionally, many 3D letters and panels allow for built-in lights. On the other hand, flat panel signs are good options when you do not need illumination. It is frequently the case for businesses that are open only during daytime hours.
  3. Pricing differences. Basic outdoor flat-panel signs are made of aluminum, acrylic, or composite panels. They are lightweight and, therefore, priced ideally for start-ups and smaller businesses. When constructing 3D signs, more material and labor are required. Add illumination, and the price increases again. These signs are good choices when you want something that will be in place for a long time and needs little maintenance.

What Customers Think

Generally speaking, customers view 3D signs are premium products that communicate success, stability, and trust. While 2D signs do not offer this level of premium display, clever use of colors, gradient color changes, and printed three-dimensional designs can create stunning lobby signs that get attention.
