We know what it's like to be cold up here in North Jersey. And, meteorologists are predicting that we are in store for one of the coldest winters on record. Fortunately, at The Sign Center, we know what it takes to make vehicle wraps last a long time. Just about any type of weather can be handled by our high quality vehicle wraps.
Care for Your Vinyl Car Wrap
The amount of care you put into your car wrap is one factor that will determine its longevity. To maintain your car wrap, North Jersey wrap owners should store their vehicle out of the weather when possible, wash them regularly, and bring your wrap in to have small holes and tears fixed when you notice them.
The chemicals used to keep the roads free from snow and ice are an additional issue in the cold weather. Without your wrap, these chemicals would have a harmful effect on your car’s finish. This makes it extra important that you keep your wrap as clean as you can during a tough winter, since the chemicals can eat away at the vinyl. Look for a car wash that is open during the winter, and run your vehicle through it every week or two.
Tiny Holes Can Lead to Big Problems
Tears and holes in the vinyl are also important for you to watch out for. It is likely that grime and dirt will get trapped under the vinyl when there is a small tear. This will cause the wrap to peel and deteriorate. Plus, over the months and years, a small piece of grit will act like sandpaper on your car’s clear coat finish. Eventually, it will wear through the finish and cause the body to rust. To avoid this problem, bring your car in to have your wrap patched.
In addition, when it gets cold out, it is actually quite a bit harder to install a vehicle wrap. Since we need a minimum of 50 degrees to apply vinyl, we keep our installation bay heated to high temperatures. This is easier said than done on record cold days. To make certain that we are performing the best installation possible, we may postpone putting your wrap on for a day when the temperatures are not arctic.
Professional Installation
Since the pros have all of the tools needed to install your wrap perfectly no matter the time of year, it just makes sense to have experts put your vinyl on. In addition, when The Sign Center installs your wrap, we take all of the necessary steps to ensure it can stand up against the elements.
So, will a harsh winter destroy a vinyl wrap in North Jersey? The short answer is “probably not.” However, to increase the longevity of your wrap and protect the paint job underneath:
- Watch out for tears and holes
- Keep your car clean
- Keep chemicals off the vinyl
- Have a professional install and patch your wrap
